Overview
BTCSoftware Accounts Production uses protection to prevent accidental editing of headings, formulas, and other fixed content. You will occasionally need to disable this protection — for example, when changing a heading or merging cells when adding a custom note.
⚠ Important: Always re-enable protection as soon as you have finished making the changes you need. Leaving protection disabled risks accidentally overwriting formulas or other fixed content in the accounts.
How to Disable Protection
- In the accounts task, look for the right-hand menu pane. If it is not visible, drag it back into view — it may have been minimised off the edge of the screen.
- In the right-hand pane, locate the Protection Menu and expand it by clicking the dropdown.
- Untick the Enable Protection checkbox.
- Protection is now disabled. You can make the changes you need — for example editing a heading or merging cells.
How to Re-Enable Protection
- Once you have finished your changes, return to the right-hand pane.
- Expand the Protection Menu.
- Tick the Enable Protection checkbox to re-enable protection.
✔ Tip: Get into the habit of re-enabling protection immediately after each edit session. It takes only a second and prevents accidental formula edits that can be difficult to identify and correct later.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The right-hand pane is not visible — where has it gone?
A: The pane may have been dragged off the visible area of the screen. Try dragging the right edge of the BTCSoftware window to make the pane reappear, or look for a panel toggle button on the right side of the toolbar.
Q: I disabled protection and now some formulas are showing incorrect results — what happened?
A: If a formula cell was accidentally edited while protection was disabled, the formula may have been overwritten. Check the affected cells and restore the correct formulas. If you are unsure what the original formula should be, contact BTCSoftware support.
